Mid-Week Update!

Hey guys!

Watch Yourself!!!

So it's Wednesday...and no way...tomorrow's Thursday! You know what that means, it's time for WATCH YOURSELF! Remember to look for a girl in an OTN shirt lugging around camera equipment. Got anything to say? We'll put you on camera. Wanna showcase your ability to touch your tongue to your nose? Go for it. We've basically got an "anything goes" type of policy here at OTN (well sorta...so long as there's no nudity or profanity). So bring yourself, bring your friends, and WATCH YOURSELF! Tomorrow, 12-2pm or 4pm...haven't decided yet.

Webisodes!

Oh and we've added some new stuff to the "videos" section of our site. Check out new webisodes on Korean drumming and the Cynthia Tucker lecture! There's also a new episode of 'Cuse Coverage right on the homepage, so peek that too! But then again, how could you not? That Alyssa Henry is such a cutie.

Channels 2, 2.1 & 2.2...and STREAMING!

And we've got you covered all day with quality student programming. Get informed with Connect, the student news magazine show today at 5pm. Or if you're more of a night owl, watch the Mark Zito Show at 9pm...he's our own Howard Stern...just without the hair.

How did 'Cuse manage to pull of 87 degrees?!

It looks like we're back to the work week...what a downer! After those few days of summer, my mind really hasn't registered that i'm supposed to start thinking again. If you're feeling the same way...OTN to the rescue!!!

We've got a ton of programming that'll keep your mind occupied. Go ahead and watch some comedy tonight at 8pm on channels 2 & 2.1. And remember, you don't necessarily have to have a TV; we've got you covered with our live stream. Or, if you're not in the mood for comedy, get your sports fix with Orange Press Pass at 10pm.

You can always see what's on by going to the "Schedule" section of OTN's site.

And if for some crazy reason you aren't too busy watching our quality programming, you might wanna consider getting on camera so you and your friends can WATCH YOURSELF. You'll have the perfect opportunity to show us who you are and what you've got this upcoming Thursday. Look for a girl in an OTN shirt lugging around camera equipment and maybe you'll get the chance to become a little famous! WATCH YOURSELF!

TGISB!

TGISB -- THANK GOD IT'S SPRING BREAK!

I'm sure you are just as stoked as I am now that classes are JUST about over. Spring Break is already here for some of us and for others, only a few short hours away. But hey, Spring Break doesn't just mean not going to school, it means you'll have more time to watch OTN! Okay...so maybe you won't be watching OTN (ch. 2 and 2.1) from dusk til dawn...but hey, you can come pretty close with our LIVE Stream on the site!

Speaking of the website, we have a bunch of new webisodes up (with more coming a little later today)! Take a load off now that midterms are over and laugh it up with our very own improv troupe Zamboni Revolution or our stand-up comedians from Woo Hoo Comedy! Later we should be uploading a Dance Works webisode as well as a couple other things. So keep a lookout for those!

So, long story short: Watch ch. 2 & 2.1 for some quality, student-made shows. And check out our LIVE Stream/Webisodes online! Have an amazing break guys, cause I know I will!

Oh and if you aren't leaving 'cuse, maybe this will cheer you up...just pretend it's you on that beach, living the dream...

Peace!

Indie Flick Files - Looking ahead, a new film!

Hey there, folks! On behalf of the cast and crew of Indie Flick Files, I hope you've been enjoying our most recent Indie Flick, "Aaltra," hailing all the way from Belgium.

I know we're all giddy for Spring break, and the prospect of coming back to Syracuse after our respective vacations often seems a little depressing, because regardless of where you live, it is warmer than here, BUT we do have something that might make that depressed thought a bit more cheery -- a brand new film! "The Bothersome Man" comes to us all the way from Norway and the creative directorial mind of Jens Lien (that's a male name, by the way. And yes, I had to google image the name to figure that out). This film is a perfect way to propel us along our little Euro film trip we've been taking since Norway is just a short drive and a swim north of Belgium, the location of our most recent flick, "Aaltra."

The film chronicles an unfortunate man named Andreas who arrives in a city with absolutely no memory of how he got there. It is a city without children, without smell and without taste. It is a metropolis where no amount of sex can satisfy and no amount of booze can intoxicate. It is a grey, numb, monotone, monochrome existence. It is a film of a million allegories; a true field day for any film analyst.

We hope you can join us on this fantastic journey after break as we attempt to scratch the surface of this dense and compelling conceit.

Safe travels to you all over Spring break and catch you in a week or so!

- Andrew

Just another Thursday at Schine!

Yep, we were there again putting YOU on camera! And it was a good day; got a couple animal noises, some guy freestyling about SU being number one, and a duo singing some angelic verses.

Take a peek at our facebook page (search for "The Orange Television Network") and you'll be able to check out the pictures and videos from Watch Yourself Thursdays at Schine! The pictures taken today will be up late tonight!

And an FYI for all you folks who are wondering why video of you isn't up on facebook yet...well our video uploader isn't working at the moment. But it should be fixed really soon! Don't worry, i'll let you know when something new pops up on our facebook page!

Oh, and if you need a study break from those annoying midterms that are coming up, watch The Mark Zito Show! It's on at 9pm tonight on channels 2 &2.1. Also, don't forget that you can watch us streaming on our site! Check it!

Syracuse Sno-nado?

Yep, you heard me, "sno-nado" is what some news outlets are calling the storm that's moving into Syracuse as I type. But not to worry! We've got some new content up on the website and ofcourse 24-7 programming on channels 2 & 2.1. And just in case you didn't know, we're broadcasting in HD, for all you techies out there!

For those of you who appeared on-camera last Thursday at Schine, don't worry, those short videos are being crafted by our master editors. We should have them done next week. So look for them!

We also JUST uploaded a couple videos onto our site, so check them out! One is about the SU Drama Department's production of Shakespeares "The Two Gentlemen of Verona." If you're interested, you better buy tickets soon because the show only goes until Feb. 28th!

The other new video has bunch of random clips from Terry Galloway's solo performance "Out All Night and Lost My Shoes." Galloway is a deaf, lesbian, writer/comedian...so it's sure to be a hoot.

Oh and don't miss Music & Performance on tonight at 8pm. Music, dance, singing...it's all covered for you arts lovers. (Ch. 2 & 2.1 and streaming live at http://orangetv.syr.edu/)

Long story short, check those two videos out, watch OTN streaming LIVE on your computer, enjoy the Syracuse snow, veg out and be merry.

Peace!

The Weekend is Finally Here!

The weekend is finally here and i'm sure we're all excited to relax! So, now that you'll have a little spare time, check out our live stream on the OTN website. The show schedule is also online, so click around and see what interests you. There's bound to be something on that will stave off weekend boredom! Even if you live off-campus you can still enjoy quality programming from the best student-run station in the country! :)

Also, check out the videos section of the site. New short videos are added all the time! Check out the newest one from Indie Flick Files!

And again, pics from Schine are up on Facebook. Look for yourselves sometime next week when we put up a short video of people who were willing to do something amazing in front of the camera!

Have an awesome weekend guys! And remember, Watch Yourself!

SU Students = Talent!

Hey guys!

Every 1st and 3rd Thursday we're at Schine putting YOU, SU students, on camera! Today just so happens to be the 3rd Thursday of the month, so you know what that means... we were out filming and taking pictures of you all!

And this time around, there was some MAJOR talent! We got a guy rapping, some girls singing, a girl dancing, and a guy in a cookie monster costume...yes that's right...a cookie monster costume. We should have a short video montage put together by early (or middle of) next week. So keep watch, cause it'll be entertaining!

Facebook pictures will be up by 8pm tonight (maybe earlier). Check 'em out, and Watch Yourself!

Also, you can watch a new Improve Your World webisode on solar power right here, right now (see below). So go ahead, and improve YOUR world by checking out the show about all things green, all the time! Or you can go to our website, http://orangetv.syr.edu/ and checkout the latest videos there.

A New Week is Here!

Hey guys! So a new week is here, and guess what? This Thursday will be the 3rd Thursday of the month...so that means we'll be at Schine again from 1-4pm putting you on TV/Internet/Facebook! So come around and talk about whatever you want to talk about, and so long as it's not something we'll get in trouble for, you're guaranteed a spot of airtime (on TV and/or the internet). Here's an example of what you could do (but of course you aren't limited to it)!

So come out this Thursday (2/18 from 1-4pm), have a good 'ol time with the OTN Crew, and Watch Yourself!

Monday, February 8, 2010

Thanks for coming out to Schine!

Hey guys!

P.S. ~ If you can't see it below, check it out on our facebook page! Search for "The Orange Television Network."

Watch Yourself!

We're well into Spring semester and all of us probably have some pretty hefty course loads. But amid all the work, consider getting on camera and becoming a little more famous than you already are!

Starting this Thursday (Feb. 4th), we'll be in the Schine Student Center from 1-4pm working to get YOU on tv! Bring your friends, bring your pet, bring...whatever. Stand in front of the camera and say anything you want, and we promise you will be on tv sets all over the SU campus (so long as whatever you say doesn't make anyone burst into tears or yell at us). So come hang out, say hi, and WATCH YOURSELF!

Oh yeah, after we play Providence College tonight, tune into Orange Press Pass on-air LIVE at 10:30pm. That's where you'll get exclusive interviews, highlights, and post-game analysis.

Some Timely Independent Film Gossip

E'lo again, indie film sponges! With the Sundance Film Festival upon us, I only thought it proper that I say a little about the shenanigans that are occuring on the other side of our fair nation.

Sundance kicked off its 26th installment just a little over a week ago now. The big news surrounding the festival this year, beyond the usual "my favorite film" gossip ("Blue Valentine" directed by Derek Cianfrance), is the new kid on the block, John Cooper. Cooper has been involved with the festival for over 20 years and now is inheriting the directorship reins from Mr. Geoffrey Gilmore, and boy, is he heir to a tough industry. With the recession the way it has been, it is an incredibly difficult time for independent film -- many major studios have shut down their independent wings to cut costs. It's a sad reality, but indie film is generally like the theater program at a high school during tough times -- keep the sports (mainstream studios) and cut the arts (independent film). But heck, evidently it's not all doom and gloom; I stumbled upon a short upbeat interview by NPR's Culturetopia in which Mr. Cooper gives his own opinion on the industry's situation, as it relates to Sundance.

Hope you enjoy!

Indie Flick Files - First blog post...second semester

Hey there Indie Flick Filers!

Andrew Graham here - your zealous-yet-slightly remiss producer.

For those of you going through withdrawal from a lack of independent films, fear not: Indie Flick Files is back and has a new film slated to air in February, and it's a doozy. "Aaltra" is a film written by, directed by, and co-starring Benoît Delépine and Gustave Kervern, who hail all the way from Belgium (yes, they make films over there too). I know I have a bias when I say this is a strong film, but for lovers of dark and physical humor, this film will hit your funny bone in all the right places. Delépine and Kervern are masters of saying just enough to make a joke work. Their punchlines are subtle and underplayed in a way that will have you nodding in approval as you chuckle along with the unbelievably original story line. This picture has reaffirmed for me why independent film is so important -- the innovative ideas come from the edges and "Aaltra" is way out there in left field, positioned in a way to challenge how we look at comedy in cinema.

Hey, it made me giggle.

- Andrew

"Indie Flick Files" airing every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday only on OTN: channel 2, 2.1 and 2.2.
